Stonewall Democrats

| | Comments (30)

Hi Cowboy, lookin for a good time.jpg

Local Democrats have been holding many more public events with high profile speakers than I ever remember them doing before. The energy level going into the next election is unmatched in Ventura County history as far as I remember.

many groups have helped out. If your group has an event, e-mail it in and I will post it.

Stonewall Democrats will be hosting a former Massachusetts governor that is no longer running for president. At one time he was at the top of the polls but a series of events stopped him.

Democrats, when is the next update on the 472 registered voter difference between you and the Republicans here in Ventura County? When do you predict the county will turn blue? You better do it before you take off for the convention!

The Ventura County Democratic Central Committee &

472:

Take heed of the Scriptural admonition, to wit, "..Pride goeth before the fall!.."

Nothing, I repeat nothing is inevitable in politics.

At the moment, the political head wins are tacking strongly against the Republicans, but a funny thing about political head winds, just like real winds, they can change in a wink of an eye.

The longer it takes for Democrats to sort out who their Presidential nominee will be, the greater the time for McCain to staunch the political hemorraging by his right wing which will give him political room to fight for the Reagan-Democrats and indepdents.

Further, if, after April 22nd, when the Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Pennslyvania primaries are over, neither Hillary or Obama gain decisive delegate number wins and their battle gets down to a messy credentials fight over the seating of the Michigan and Florida delegations at the Democratic Convention in August, Democrats could loose this election, inspite of Obama's call for change or Hillary's inherent strength against McCain on the economy.

Democrats longing for a victory in November have only one course of action - be of good cheer, work like hell, and build a working majority including Reagan-Democrats, independents, and dissaffected Republicans. If Democrats, at either the National, State or local levels, mistake the cockiness of the moment, for confidence and hard-work required between now and November, we will snatch political defeat from the jaws of victory. And, will have no one to blame but ourselves!

NostraDEMUS

Does it look like it?

Nobody:

As Alice said when she fell down the rabbit-hole, "..Things are getting curiouser and curiouser.."

At the moment, polls in Texas, Ohio and Pennslyvania show Senator Clinton with double-digit leads over Senator Obama, and show the Wisconsin race this Tuesday as a dead-heat. However, both candidates' internal tracking polls in Wisconsin show Obama winning, but not decisively this Tuesday. Anything can happen!

One view regarding the latest news concerning the time-bomb lurking within the Democratic National Committee's ill-conceived decision to freeze-out the Michigan and Florida delegations, check-out CNN News URL link below.

Party elites on the Rules Committee decided to punish those state delegations since their respective state parties opted for earlier caucus/primary dates than those found acceptable to the those elites. Perhaps, at the time, a reasonable response to the logistical challenges of deciding how early is early. Nonetheless, I would venture to guess that when they made it, very few, if any, of those Rules Committee elites thought that the Democratic nominee would not be chosen by Super-Duper-Democratic Tuesday, on February 5th.

Senator Clinton won the nominating races in both Michigan and Florida convincingly, (although Senator Obama only chose to be on the ballot in Florida, not Michigan). Accordingly, all things being equal, she would be entitled to the majority of the delegates from both states seated at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. But under the current rules of the Democratic seating game, ONLY if she can muster a majority of the delegates present on the floor to seat those two delegations when the inevitable credentials challenge comes. Can you imagine the palpable television drama this August if there is a bloody-fight over seating those two state delegations?

Harken back to the 1972 Democratic Convention and the fight over seating the California delegation. Remember former California Speaker Willie Brown's impassioned, and ultimately successful plea, "give me back my delegation!." on television?

Who will be Senator Clinton's "Willie Brown," clamoring for seating the Michigan and Florida delegations in Denver? I hasten to add, while the TV drama was unparalleled, and Speaker Brown ultimately successful in seating the California delegation pledged to Senator McGovern, the Democrats went down to crushing defeat in the November 1972 election, at the hands of none other than Dick Nixon!

Even more interesting, how will Senator Obama respond to this challenge? Will he instruct his delegates to vote to seat the Florida and Michigan state delegations chosen by over 1.2 Million Democratic voters who cast their primary ballots earlier this year, and by so doing risk his nomination? Or will he and his party apparatchiks unilaterially decide that there will only be 48 state delegations represented in Denver, and vote to deny seating the the popularly-chosen Michigan and Florida delegates thereby crushing the "Audacity of Hope," of 1.2 Million Democratic primary voters in those states?

As you can see, Nobody, lurking within all things are the potential seeds of their own defeat. Choices do matter, and even in politics, the smallest actions may have the greatest consequences.

NostraDEMUS

Every political race has it's "seeds of potential defeat".
The GOP should ask themselves how can any other parties "seeds of defeat" grow in the shade of the Republicans' ancient Redwood forrest of problems.

Nobody:

Simple, because from time-to-time, the self-delusional application of propaganda manure spares idealogical extremists in either party, the torture of thought!

Presumably, Nobody, you and I hope, wish and are working diligently for a Democratic victory in November. The problem is, regardless of the hopeful signs at the moment, I am beginning to see the tell-tale warning signs of polemic hubris rearing its ugly head amongst too many Democrats who should know better.

To paraphrase Sir Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, "..The only thing sadder than defeat is presumed victory, cheaply planned, and too quickly lost.."

NostraDEMUS

Hey Brian, how come we haven't seen a thread on the Michigan and Florida delegate controversy withing the democratic party? And what about the looming issue of superdelegates and the role they might play in selecting the democratic nominee? After the "stolen" 2000 presidential election, how will it look for Obama and other democrats to now support the disenfranchisement of 1.5 million democratic voters in the state of Florida? How will it look for the wife of the first "black" president to change the primary rules half-way through the contest in order to gain an advantage against a black opponent? Will the eventual nominee be selected in an un-democratic process by backroom deals in allocating superdelegate votes?

This is some pretty big stuff to be completely overlooked yet by a political blog run by a democrat. With all these potentially interesting topics all I've seen lately is more of the usual threads that bash local conservatives. Surely you can do better than that.

Bubba,

1. I don't think it will come down to superdelegates.

2. Are more people than you interested in discussing it here?

3. The top 4 entries are all about Democrats, not "bashing conservatives". After that they are mostly factual entries. I don't see entry after entry that bashes conservatives. I don't control the comments but I think the split on this website as far as comments go is pretty even.

Thanks for reading.

Hey Bubbademus,
I rather have Superdelegates than the judges that picked the Republican President we have now.

I am not bashing Republicans. I am pointing out their crimes and mistakes to try and make a better America.

How many Iraqi kids got shot at school this year oh wise one?

So nobody,

Show us how smart you are. Which judges were they?

Nobody:

Three things in life are certain, taxes, death and the fact that I am not Bubba Kidd's alter-blog-ego. That dog just won't hunt!

NostraDEMUS

Voter,
Are you referring to:

Case name: George W. Bush and Richard Cheney, Petitioners v. Albert Gore, Jr., et al.
Docket #: 00-949

Citations: 531 U.S. 98; 121 S. Ct. 525; 148 L. Ed. 2d 388; 2000 U.S. LEXIS 8430; 69 U.S.L.W. 4029; 2000 Cal. Daily Op. Service 9879; 2000 Colo. J. C.A.R. 6606; 14 Fla. L. Weekly Fed. S 26?

Yea, who were the judges? You probably don't want to go there. I think your interest is in perpetuating the Democrat myth that it was the Republicans against the Democrats when in fact it was a 7-2 court with 2 of the Dems (Breyer and Souter) voting with the Republican majority. (5-4 was the vote on the remedy, the Dems wanted a do over, not possible with our Constitution.)

Although to be fair it'd probably have been ok with you if the Florida judges, who had given it to Gore, had prevailed.

Democrats' Moral of the story: Judges that rule for Democrats are good, judges that rule for Republicans are bad.

How can you argue that logic?

And nevermind that every recount scenario done after the election came back with the same result, even the selective Gore recount. Had the Florida Supreme Court prevailed the result would have been the same. Of course we would have had more time to try and re-interpret all those dimpled and hanging chads. I'm sure that folks like nobody would also conclude that all non-vote ballots were actually intended for Gore, but due to defective voting equipment and a vast right-wing conspiracy to trick voters with confusing ballots Florida democrats were disenfranchised. Need I mention that the now infamous Florida butterfly ballot was designed by democrats.

Moral of the story for democrats: When a democrat wins it is the will of the people, when a republican wins it is voter fraud. The remedy is to continue to re-count until you get the correct result.

Thanks to those hanging chads we got Bush. With that we got $3.50 a gallon gas, a surplus was turned into a massive deficit, we got a war in Iraq based on lies that has costs thousands of American lives and wasted a trillion dollars, the U.S. Dollar is no longer wanted around the world, the Bill of Rights has been torn up and now we torture people. Getting a lecture from Bubba Kidd about politics is like getting a lecture from Britney Spears on sanity.

Hey doodie boy, you're stinking up the thread. Reading your scripted DNC talking points is like having a debate with a tape recorder.

What did you say Britney, I mean Bubba? I notice how you did not even try to deny what I said, as usual you just launch into a stupid personal attack, of course that is what the GOP is good at. They yell and scream and insult and then cry like babies when the truth is force fed down their throats.

I don't waste my time responding to scripted DNC talking points. If you want a response then perhaps you should actually come up with an original idea of your own. It just goes to show that doodie boy has fecal matter for brains.

In terms of a response from you I would rather get lessons in sanity from Britney Spears. Of course getting lessons in politics from Bubba Kidd is like getting a lesson in the English language from George Bush, neither one knows what the heck they are talking about.

Wow -- Go Stonewalls!!!!! You guys have been attracting the attention lately, and having Dukakis is sure to bring people out of the woodwork! Count me in! Hope to see you there, Ron!!!!

Hey doodie, you really need to come up with some original thoughts of your own. You copy my name, you repeatedly parrot back your scripted DNC talking points, and when told that you have fecal matter for brains you respond with some sort of dorky feces comment. You really are a poopie head.

Bubba Kidd wants to know if there are going to be tank rides?

I love tanks.

Bubba Kidd if I really wanted to be like you I would have to insert my head up my own bum and I would have to be a mindless lemming like you are who only supports policies that help the richest 1% of people in the nation. Sorry to hear that your boy McCain was outed for having an affair, but look on the bright side Bubba Kidd, unlike conservatives like yourself, McCain was at least having an affair with a woman.

Hey doodie, you need to stop being such a poopie head. Your mom should have raised you better than that.

Bubba Kidd I'm your daddy, just ask your mommy!

You really need to come up with your own material and stop plagerizing others. You're such a poopie head.

And once again you plagiarize my comments. You can't even come up with your own name or your own material. I guess that proves that I really am your daddy and that you are just a pretender.

Bubba's Daddy is like a little girl. His comments are so - "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah", it's hard to believe he's an adult, but, then again, maybe I'm taking too much for granted here.

Bubba Kidd I am your Daddy and don't ever forget it! Congratulations to the New York Times for coming out with the story on McCain's lobbyist mistress. Also a new story breaking on how McCain is breaking the law in terms of his fundraising due to matching funds.

If McCain can't handle his campaign finances how is he going to handle the economy?
