( Rep. Elton Gallegly on the surge of troops in Iraq).
The Thousand Oaks Chili Cook Off was today and Michael Tenenbaum was there in his booth.
He is doing a lot of small time events in his campaign against Rep. Elton Gallegly.
Most people agree that Tenenbaum stands a very small chance of winning this campaign. So what keeps him going?
I have met him and he is a down to earth, highly intelligent, rational man.
Why would he put himself through this campaign knowing the chances of a victory seem very remote at this time?
I think he is running to up his name ID for when Gallegly does retire.
What other politicians have you seen making the rounds?

Good for Michael - it was 95 degrees here in Camarillo. I'm sure it was even hotter in TO. He is making himself accessible.
I'm looking forward to the CAPC forum next Tuesday - it will be Michael Tenenbaum, Jill Martinez and Mary Pallant at CLU in TO; Details are at the CAPC website and Brian will be publishing them later.
Michael Tenebaum will never be his party's nominee for anything until he bows his head in submission to the overlords that runs the VCRCC. The latest proof? Look at how quickly they slammed the door on any possible competition to Tony Strickland by endorsing him immediately upon his entry into the race for State Senate before others could jump in to a race for the open seat.
Well Harold, MT will never be the party's nominee - he broke the golden rule of not running against an incumbent. I don't know if the Dems have the same rule but the Reps apparently do. Even Tom McClintock won't run against an incumbent or so he said in the recent article on him.
Down to earth, highly intelligent, rational man....? No wonder he doesn't get along with the VCRCC. He won't get on the cover of "member communication" magazine with that attitude.
In 2006, this incumbent had held his job for 20 years due almost entirely to the fact that he has been in a district with a registration that prevented the other party from challenging him, not on his effectiveness as a law maker or leadership in the house. Michael's candidacy was never a matter of risking loss of the seat to a Democratic nominee. Republican rank and file, I think, desire the highest quality representation and since the party had nothing to risk in their control of the seat, it should not have been the VCRCC's job to prevent real competition to show who was best.
Simply put: it had nothing to do with rules other than that unwritten rule of always pleasing the king makers who run the party.
The proof: many of these same individuals chose not to follow your so-called "golden rule" of not supporting a party member against a party incumbent when they supported Peter Foy's candidacy against Judy Mikels in the 2006 election for 4th district supervisor. In fact, they were eager to replace the incumbent with one more to their liking.
It is a sad reality of party politics that stifles competition, but my point is that the free choice of those who would serve them should be left to the voters.
I'd be happy to see Tenenbaum step in and grab the nomination. The country's in a state that needs someone with energy, with smarts and without calcified allegiance to distant political handlers. If MT is really going all the way with his campaign I just may be supporting him, along with a lot of the Valley's east end.
Tenenbaum in 2008!!!
Michael Tenenbaum is what the local Republican party needs to make a comeback.
The VCRCC should be nurturing people like Michael Tenenbaum.
Any corporation with longevity nurtured the new talent. Republicans like Elton Gallegly are the reason Ventura County turned Democrat. The last thing the Democrats want is the Republicans nominating an intelligent, high energy, results driven candidate like Michael Tenenbaum for Congress.
Daniel,
Have you met Michael Tenenbaum? What convinced you to support him against a Republican incumbent?
Nobody knows who Michael Tenenbaum is. He'll be lucky if he gets 20%.
Brian,
Yes I did meet Michael Tenebaum. It was at a car show last weekend in Thousand Oaks. Approaching him was not a problem as he is quite friendly. Later checking his website I learned he went to ucla for his undergrad followed by harvard law. If thats not potential then I dont know what is.
What you could say convinced me is pretty much just meeting the guy. He's actually around.
Gallegly, now there is a free thinking, educated, good looking man who deserves to be elected to Congress.
Daniel,
Are you planning to volunteer for Michael Tenenbaum? You can write a weekly update about the campaign and I can post it if your interested.
