Have you seen this new version of the presidential seal the Barack Obama campaign has been using? Without using google how many of you translated the words that replaced out of many, one? Do you like the seal or the graphics from the Barack Obama campaign?
There are county wide events for to support Barack Obama this weekend. If you are attending any of them send in a few photos and I will post them.
The local Barack Obama supporters have jumped ahead of the McCain supporters when it comes to using technology to organize.
Are there any local grassroots events to support McCain in this area? Of course, there are many people who support him, but it doesn't seem like there is any organizing going on in Ventura County.
Recently John McCain said about his ability to use technology:
Is this lack of online organizing a sign of a digital divide between the parties, a lack of enthusiasm among Republicans for their nominee ( who would have been a much better president in my opinion than George W. Bush) , or the grassroots of the Republican Party giving up on a blue state?

( Did you see the recent sparring between the candidates when McCain modified Barack Obama's logo and slogan. Reminds me of when George W. Bush contrasted himself with McCain by calling himself a reformer with results. )
I am impressed that a presidential campaign is inspiring people to put together events across the county, all in a day, and in some cities multiple events in a day.
Let me know if you see anything from the McCain campaign.
In related news my correspondent Owen Paun, who wrote several updates about his adventures working for the McCain campaign from places like Iowa is taking a break from politics. At least for a few months. Best of luck with your current calling Owen!
You can read his blog here: Lex Libertas.

Owen Paun on the campaign trail. Can you guess where?
To find out more details go to barackobama.com and search for events by zip code. I looked at John McCain's website but I didn't find a place where they use this feature. If you find it send me a link.

Hi All,
This past week was full of Obama action here in the 24th CD. Everyone seems to be really excited and raring to go for the general election. We had a terrific meeting in Camarillo with about 170 supporters attending. Thank you to Jay Kapitz for planning and executing a great meeting. We covered the basics on what to expect moving forward; hosting events; developing city groups; phonebanking; canvassing and traveling to other states. Roni Flowers brought us up to speed on voter registration. I think what most attendees wanted to know was - where do we go from here? So, I'll try and outline the plan along with providing links for upcoming events.
In the primary campaign we organized by Congressional District which we then broke down into city groups. This plan worked well and my hope is that we can be even more successful in the general election using a similar structure. Most of the major cities in CD24 were represented at Tuesday's meeting, many volunteers stepped forward offering to take leadership positions, we now need to build those groups and get them active. Just a note, gerrymandering has created some strange outlines for California's Congressional Districts, so we will blur the lines a bit and work with volunteers in areas adjacent to our CD. Closer to election time we will also work down to the neighborhood and precinct level.
Unite for Change parties are a great way to launch your city group and to begin filling leadership positions. If you are hosting an event and would like specifics on team roles and responsibilities, email me. Below are all the Unite for Change events in our area that I found by searching on the Barack Obama website. If you do not see an event near you, consider hosting one, attend the closest one or check the website daily - new events are being posted every day.
If you want to use your Unite for Change party as a launching point, I would recommend that you address two things; filling the leadership roles and calendaring your first event. You should also decide where and how often you should meet as a group. Jay has arranged for county wide monthly meetings in Camarillo, but more frequent meetings might be required for your area.
Voter registration is a campaign priority at the moment and a great way to be visible in your community, this makes a great first event. Roni Flowers has taken leadership on voter registration and can assist with planning, training and necessary materials. She is hosting a training event in her home this Tuesday

Battleground States will need our assistance in the coming months. Please consider making travel plans to volunteer in one of these states. A coordinated travel effort from our CD would be a great way to go. If you'd like to take leadership on this project, let me know. In the meantime I'll keep you updated. Not sure which states are up for grabs?: http://www.cnn. com/2008/ POLITICS/ 06/10/electoral.map/index. html
Mini Camp Obama. We are considering putting together a mini Camp Obama for later in the summer. Original Camps were three days, 36 hours and covered a lot of leadership building, phonebank, canvass and computer training. If we are really efficient, I think we can condense it into a day. I would like an indication of interest before I move forward with plans. Let me know if you would like to dedicate a Saturday for this.
John McCain will be in Santa Barbara Tuesday, June 24th for an environmental roundtable. Local environmental groups are staging a presence outside. More information can be found on the Santa Barbara Obama website: sbforobama.com
Thanks for all the continued support and the very warm welcome I received Tuesday evening. Feel free to email with any questions.

I will be attending a gathering this Saturday 4-6 pm at the Stateside Restaurant on 1114 State Street, Santa Barbara. I am looking forward to great community vibes with the local Obama team workers and to just a fun social party--this from someone who is usually an isolato and recluse. The Obama movement is helping change the sense of community in our nation.
How did you find out about it?
I am planning on attending the Simi Valley meeting and taking pictures. If you are going to any of the others please send a few pictures to me. Make sure to say what event you took them at.
So we aren't going to be allowed to ask questions?
I don't see any reason you wouldn't be able to ask questions.
I am bringing a few signs if you need a sign.
