Conscience Signs
Philosophers say that ancient religion was just a basic form of government, Big Brother without the technology. In the absence of police, leaders relied on HELL AND BRIMSTONE (which is almost as bad as the state pen).
All these years later, the darling folks of Saint Kitts have taken a similar run at law enforcement, only instead of using the stick, they're using carrot...
That's right: street signs to "be good."
Saint Kitts isn't the safest place in the Caribbean, with its petty crime, domestic violence, illiteracy. Sure, it's enchanting from the portal of your Princess cruise liner, but you don't want to wander out of earshot. Not without an umbrella drink anyway.
Still, we optimists are cheering for Saint Kitts, eager for them to prove the power of love, hoping against hope that conscience signs are all it takes to rub out petty crime and domestic violence (not sure what they'll do for illiteracy).
One thing is certain: It will be beneficial to all concerned.
