Here are some of the stories we are working on today ...

The weekend shooting deaths of the employee and family members of the U.S. consulate in Juarez heightens concern about travel to Mexico. We are looking into that today to see if the rising violence is keeping people away, either for spring break trips for college students or humanitarian projects. We are also looking for people who have growing concern about family members living in Mexico or those who are concerned about going home for a visit. Let me know if you are thinking of changing your travel plans to Mexico: jmoore@vcstar.com.

We're also awaiting the word on how Oxnard High School did in the state Academic Decathlon. We should get results by early afternoon.

And we're working on a story looking at what developers are doing to try to offset the new regulations on preventing stormwater runoff on projects in the county ... and what they say that will ultimately cost you, the consumer. Environmentalists explain why the new rules are important and why it seems Ventura County is first in the state with such stringent regs.
